John FoleyJohn Foley’s term as Superintendent will run from May 11, 2007 to July 31, 2010, making him the 28th superintendent of the fourth largest public school district in Ohio.

Foley’s dedication to the children of this district began in 1977 when he taught severe behavior handicapped junior high school students at the Lagrange Achievement Center. Until 1985, he worked with the students in a variety of settings, including Medical College School and Day Treatment program and Kobacker Psychoeducational Center.

In 1985, he began a four-year term as head teacher at Kobacker.

Mr. Foley began his work in administration in 1989 as acting assistant principal at King Elementary School. He moved to the assistant principal’s position at Oakdale Elementary School in 1990 and became principal of Reynolds Elementary School in 1991, a position he held for 5 years.

From 1996 to 2000, Foley was the School Improvement Leader for the Bowsher area schools.

He served as principal of King High School from 2000-2001, and as the School Improvement Leader for Rogers Learning Community from 2001-2004.

In the summer of 2004, he advanced to the position of Assistant Superintendent of School Improvement and Reform, and in August 2005 became the Chief of Staff of the district.

In the course of his career, Mr. Foley has served with distinction in the cabinets of two Superintendents and assumed leadership as internal head of several district levy campaigns.

Superintendent Foley brings 30 years of dedication and expertise to the task of educating Toledo’s children. He is known for his straightforward manner, keen intellect, outstanding sense of humor, and ability to collaborate with the many stakeholders of the district.
