Any TPS student -- and parent or guardian, for that matter -- who can't find what they need in a text or their notes can call Dial-A-Teacher. At the end of the phone line, in the Thurgood Marshall Building, is a team of teachers representing elementary through high school grades and every major subject area. At their fingertips are copies of all the texts used by Toledo Public Schools.
The team takes the frustration out of homework by guiding the caller in the right direction. "We'll help them with one or two problems, and when we see that they've got it, we'll say, 'OK, you can call back when you're done and check your answers,'" says one of the team members. "The idea is to get them to do it on their own."
The service is not just for TPS. Any student of any school -- public, parochial or in the home -- in northwest Ohio is welcome to call.
