Job Description


Division:  Business Division

Bargaining Unit:  AFSCME Local 2853

Title:  Vehicle Serviceperson

Reports To:  Foreman of Vehicle Maintenance

Function:  Has responsibility for servicing vehicles.  Also uses data processing techniques and equipment to document work.

Duties:

Understand, service and perform low level repairs on the district’s yellow bus fleet and support vehicles.

Assist in towing or recovering vehicles as necessary.

Prepare and update repair documents as needed.

Power washing buses for annual inspection, assist in performing maintenance and repair as necessary to prepare for annual and spot inspections by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Attend job related in-service training courses when possible and practical.

Function as a substitute school bus driver.

Secure repair parts from various suppliers.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:  Lifting (at least 75 lbs.), carrying (at least 50 lbs.), climbing (stairs, ladders, ramps), walking, stooping, crouching, pulling, reaching, hearing, visual acuity, driving (car, truck), balancing, kneeling, crawling, pushing, repetitive hand motions, speech. Must pass appropriate testing.


Environmental Factors:  Outside, inside, temperature extremes, humidity extremes, noise, vibration, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, low or intense illumination, uneven surfaces, works alone, works around machinery with moving parts, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, bacteria, blood, bodily fluids), and chemical exposure (fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, etc.).

 Qualifications:

Must possess high school diploma or equivalency (GED).

Must have sufficient knowledge and experience in vehicle servicing principles and practices including knowledge of shop equipment and tools, ability to detect vehicle defects and malfunctions and perform the appropriate low-level repairs and/or report the noted defects.

Five (5) years of documented experience in a recognized shop working on appropriate vehicles preferred.

Must have working knowledge of computers and software programs.

Must possess or be able to obtain a current Commercial Drivers License Class B with appropriate endorsements.

Must meet T.P.S. vehicle insurance criteria and maintain the same.

Be available to work shifts per the seniority-based bid system.

Must pass T.P.S. physical standards and aptitude testing.
