JOB TITLE:   Miscellaneous Laborer
REPORTS TO:  Building Services Supervisor and Building Custodian
DEPARTMENT:  Building Services
EDUCATION:  High school diploma or equivalency
EXPERIENCE: Must have 6 months commercial and/or industrial institutional cleaning experience.
CERTIFICATION: Successful completion of district training programs


PRIMARY PURPOSE
Perform all cleaning procedures necessary to ensure a safe and sanitary environment that meets Toledo Public Schools District quality standards.


DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES
v Complete daily work schedule for areas assigned within the time frequency provided.
v Follow trained cleaning instructions established by management.
v Know and have a basic understanding of chemicals, equipment, and work processes used in the cleaning schedule.
v Inspect work upon completion of assigned schedule and correct any problems found.
v Report safety hazards to supervisor.
v Keep equipment clean and use properly.
v Understand and know how to perform proper carpet shampooing and hard surface refinishing process.  Operate equipment necessary to perform these functions.
v Occasionally move furniture.
v Occasionally perform project cleaning.
v Must be able to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and must be able to locate them in an emergency situation.
v Responsible for securing the building.
v Assist with grass cutting and snow removal.
v Must have reliable transportation and may be required to work more than one location per shift.
v Must be able to work in a building alone.
v Must be able to climb a ladder to change light bulbs, etc.
v Perform other duties as assigned.

EQUIPMENT USED
Cleaning equipment (hand and powered) and various hand tools such as a rake, shovel, etc.

MENTAL DEMANDS
Concentration (detailed work), interpretive skills (policy, procedures, data), understanding verbal instructions, differentiating, reading, communicating (verbal/written), reasoning skills, analyzing, memorizing, coordinating, and instructing.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting (up to 50 lbs.), carrying (up to 50 lbs), climbing (ladders), walking, stooping, crouching, pulling, reaching, hearing, visual acuity, balancing, kneeling, crawling, pushing, repetitive hand motions, and speech.

*Note: applicant must successfully complete the above testing before being awarded the position.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
Outside, inside, temperature extremes, humidity extremes, noise, vibration, slippery surfaces, sunlight, works around moving objects, low or intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works alone, works around machinery with moving parts, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.), and chemical exposure (fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, etc.).
