NEW START HIGH SCHOOL OPENS NEXT WEEK
Start High School students, teachers and administrators have something to celebrate – beginning next week, they will be in a new, state-of-the art school.
The new Start measures more than 306,000 square feet, making it the third largest high school in the state of Ohio, according to the Ohio School Facilities Commission. The move from the old school to the new school is scheduled to take place this weekend during the mid-term break. Construction of the new school began in October, 2005 - total cost was $41 million.
The new school is a two-story masterpiece - it is the 16th school to open under the Toledo Public Schools’ Building for Success program. Amenities of the new facility include:
· Bright décor, an open design and colorful new furnishings and finishes
· Wireless networking throughout the building
· A state-of the art heating/cooling/ventilation system
· Large screen projector units in every classroom
· Advanced safety and security systems
· A spacious library/media center, complete with wireless networking that enables
students to engage in research using the latest technologies
· A main gymnasium, plus one auxiliary gym and a separate wrestling practice room
· A multi-use dance and weight room
· A music/orchestra theatre, along with individual, soundproof practice rooms
Demolition of the old Start High School is scheduled to begin in the spring. That site will be the new location of the West Toledo YMCA; the school’s gym and auditorium will be refurbished and used for community events.
The media is welcome to share in the excitement of the first day of classes at the new Start High School.

A formal dedication ceremony is planned for the new Start High School on Thursday, February 28th at 5:30 p.m.
