DeVeaux Middle School Students Go Back in Time While
Reading A Christmas Story
DeVeaux Middle School students just finished reading the holiday classic, A Christmas Story. The students were so inspired by the book that they decided to celebrate Scrooge’s new outlook on life by hosting a 19th Century Victorian Tea – students will be dressed as one of the story’s characters. While reading the book, students researched the culture and conflicts that inspired Charles Dickens to write his Christmas classic. Through their research, students have developed a greater understanding of the fashion, etiquette and entertainment of that time period. Parent volunteers are preparing the Victorian Tea, complete with china cups, period music, games and refreshments. The honored guest is Ebenezer Scrooge himself, who will greet guests in a jovial manner and pass out money; Jim Gault, DeVeaux principal, will play Mr. Scrooge.

WHEN:  Wednesday, December 19th at 11 a.m. in the school’s gym
WHERE:  DeVeaux Middle School – 2626 W. Sylvania Ave.

Waite High School Students Continue Tradition of
Spreading Holiday Cheer to Needy Families
More than 200 Waite High School students have embraced a 75-year-old school tradition. The students have coordinated their efforts to adopt 75 less fortunate families in their community for the holidays. Students worked with the East Toledo Family Center to determine area families who sought assistance during the holidays; they range from senior citizens, to single-parent families, to families with six children. Students held food donation drives at Waite – they also received support for the holiday outreach program from the TPS elementary and junior high schools located in their neighborhood. Through the generosity of the students and their families, Waite High School students are providing each of the 75 families with a complete holiday dinner and Christmas gifts. Students plan to deliver the food baskets and gifts…plus a little holiday cheer on Friday afternoon.

WHEN: Friday, December 21, beginning at 2:15 p.m.
WHERE:  Waite High School – 301 Morrison Drive
