GINGERBREAD HOUSE CONTEST The students at Leverette Middle School are showing their ingenuity, along with their baking abilities through their entries in the school’s annual Gingerbread House Contest. Entries in this year’s contest range from replicas of the White House, to a Victorian castle and the Veterans Memorial Bridge. The contest is sponsored by the school’s Family Consumer Science class and is intended to be a team building exercise for students. The winner will be named, and then eaten, later this week.

HEARTS FOR THE HOMELESS DECA students at Bowsher High School are in the holiday spirit. The students have organized a canned food drive that will benefit St. Paul’s Community Center. More than 30 students kicked-off their good-deed endeavor by hosting a “box city” in mid-November as a way to raise awareness about the homeless situation in our community. The food drive has sparked a friendly competition between every homeroom class in the school – the homeroom that donates the most non-perishable food items before mid-December wins a prize. On Thursday, DECA will hold a tug-o-war event – several school sporting teams, clubs, faculty members and representatives from the National Guard have donated money, which will be donated to St. Paul’s, to participate in this competition. The goal of the Hearts for the Homeless drive is to donate more than 3,000 food items to St. Paul’s.
