OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY MARCHING BAND TO PERFORM AT CROSSGATES ELEMENTARY
More than 35 members of the OSU Marching Band are planning a special pre-game performance for students at Crossgates Elementary School. Jon Waters, OSU assistant band director, proposed the idea of holding a pre-game psych-up concert to Crossgates teacher Sharon Dedinger; she took the offer to the school’s principal who immediately said “yes.”
Mr. Waters has a unique connection to TPS; his mother, Cheryl, was a former TPS teacher and administrator. Mrs. Waters and Mrs. Dedinger were best friends - even though Mrs. Waters passed away several years ago from lung cancer, Jon still keeps in touch with his mother’s long-time friend. Crossgates students will be sporting their team colors on Friday.
WHEN: Friday, November 16th – the Band is scheduled to perform from 2:30 – 3 p.m.
WHERE: Crossgates Elementary School – 3901 Shadylawn Drive. Depending on the weather, the concert will either be held outside in front of the school or in the gymnasium
TPS STUDENTS SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY WHILE SHOWING THEIR TEAM SPIRIT
Toledo Public School students are gearing up for this weekend’s big game – and they are supporting their community at the same. Several TPS schools are collecting specific items, including canned goods and socks, which will be donated to local food pantries and shelters. When students make a donation to their school’s benefit drive they are asked to declare their team allegiance…Ohio State or Michigan; a tally of student support is being kept and an ultimate winner, Buckeyes or Wolverines, will be announced on Friday. Many TPS elementary schools are allowing students to wear their team colors on Friday as a way to show their team spirit.
Ottawa River Elementary (4747 290th): Canned food donations for the Mustard Seed – students will be wearing their team colors on Friday.
Walbridge Elementary (1245 Walbridge Street): Canned food donations for the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank.
McKinley Elementary (1901 W. Central Ave.): Canned food donations for the Toledo Northwestern Ohio Food Bank – students will be wearing their team colors on Friday.
Leverette Middle School (445 E. Manhattan Blvd.): Collecting new socks for a local homeless shelter.
WHEN: Collection drives are happening throughout the week
