TOLEDO PUBLIC SCHOOLS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Beginning with the 2003/04 school year, any student who graduates from high school must have completed the requirements for an Academic or Career/Technical Major. Students graduating from a district high school with an eight-period block schedule must have 25 units as detailed below. The 25-unit graduation requirement is being phased in and will not be required for graduation until the beginning of the third year of block schedule. The dates of implementation are listed below:

English 4 units (4 years)

• English 1 (1 unit/1 year)
• English 2 (1 unit/1 year)
• English 3 (1 unit/1 year)
The following courses will fulfill the fourth-year
English requirement:
• English 4
• English 4 Honors
• English 4 AP
• English 4 - Effective Living
• Contemporary Literature
• Senior Composition
• World Literature

English 4 units (4 years)

• English 1 (1 unit/1 year)
• English 2 (1 unit/1 year)
• English 3 (1 unit/1 year)
The following courses will fulfill the fourth-year
English requirement:
• English 4
• English 4 Honors
• English 4 AP
• English 4 - Effective Living
• Contemporary Literature
• Senior Composition
• World Literature

Mathematics 3 units (3 years)

• Students graduating after September 15, 2004 must
successfully complete Algebra 1, or the equivalent
(Algebra A and Algebra B); and Geometry.

successfully complete Algebra 1, or the equivalent
(Algebra A and Algebra B); and Geometry.

Social Studies 3 units (3 years)

• American History (1 unit/1 year)
• American Government (1/2 unit/1 semester)

• Unspecified Elective (1/2 unit/ 1 semester)

the course offerings from the Science Department.

• A third Science year requirement may be chosen from
the course offerings from the Science Department.

Health and Physical Education

• Physical Education 1/2 unit (1 semester for two years)
Each semester counts as 1/4 of a unit.

Practical and/or Fine Arts (1 unit/1 year)

No student may be graduated from a Toledo Public High School who has not passed all parts of of the Ohio Ninth-Grade Proficiency Test and/or Ohio Graduation Test (OGT). Students graduating after September 15, 2008 will be required to pass all parts of the OGT. No student may be graduated from a Toledo Public High School who has not completed at least two units at that school.
