________________________________________________________ Substitute Cleaner/Laborer
FUNCTION: Performs the procedures necessary to ensure a safe and sanitary environment that meets Toledo Public Schools District quality standards. This is a substitute, non-represented, on-call, when and as needed position with no guarantee of hours. Incumbent works various shifts and hours per assignment and may be required to travel between one or more locations each shift.
DUTIES:
- Completes daily work schedule for areas assigned within the time frequency provided.
- Follows cleaning instructions established by management.
- Follows established department and District procedures and policies.
- Know and have a basic understanding of chemicals, equipment, and work processes used in the cleaning schedule.
- Inspects work upon completion of assigned schedule and corrects any problems found.
- Reports safety hazards to supervisor.
- Operates equipment properly and keeps equipment clean.
- Occasionally moves furniture.
- Occasionally performs project cleaning.
- Must be able to read and understand Material Safety Data Sheets and must be able to locate them in an emergency situation.
- May be responsible for securing the building.
- Assists with grass cutting and snow removal.
- Changes overhead light bulbs as required.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
EQUIPMENT USED: Custodial cleaning and outside equipment (hand and powered) and various hand tools, such as a rake, shovel, etc.
MENTAL DEMANDS: Concentration (detailed work), interpretive skills (policy, procedures, data), understanding verbal and written instructions, differentiating, reading, compiling, communicating (verbal/written) reasoning skills, analyzing, memorizing, coordinating, computing, and instructing. Self motivated to perform daily tasks. Ability to work alone and in team environment. Must pass appropriate testing.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Lifting (at least 50 lbs.), carrying (at least 50 lbs.), climbing (stairs, ladders, ramps), walking, stooping, crouching, pulling, reaching, hearing, visual acuity, driving car, balancing, kneeling, crawling, pushing, repetitive hand motions and speech. Must pass appropriate testing.
ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS: Outside, inside, temperature extremes, humidity extremes, noise, vibration, slippery surfaces (wet, ice), sunlight, works around moving objects, low intense illumination, microwaves, uneven surfaces, works with hands in water, works alone, works around machinery with moving parts, prolonged or irregular hours, biological exposure (insects, mold, fungi, bacteria, animals, plants, etc.), and chemical exposure (fumes, vapors, gases, dusts, etc.).
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Must possess high school diploma or equivalency.
· Must have previous documented successful work experience.
· Previous industrial/commercial cleaning experience preferred.
· Must have valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
· Successful completion of application process and required FBI/BCI criminal records check
· Must pass appropriate testing.
