Warren Woodberry, the founder and moderator of the award-winning chess team at Jones Leadership Academy, reports there are ambitious plans for the coming school year.

First, he wanted to thank Doni Miller and Neighborhood Health Association/Cordelia Martin Health Clinic for purchasing new chess uniforms for the team members.

He also reported that before school had even started, seven parents had contacted him stating they want their children to join the chess club.

Team members will be doing a community project at Savage Park in September and plans are underway to finalize the adoption of Gunckel Park and rename it JLA Park.

Mr. Woodberry says the chess team is also registering for the third Ohio State All-Girls Championship, "hoping to win the title three times in a row." The team is also planning to enter a USA National High School chess tournament in 2018.

And finally, and most exciting, Mr. Woodberry reports, "I have been approached by several schools that want to enter the chess community."
