Dr. Durant joined students and staff from the Natural Science Technology Center, as they release fish raised at the school into the pond at the Scott Park campus.
NSTC students in grades 10-12 set up large scale aquaculture systems totaling 3000 gallons of
water and acquired 300 Ohio native fish from a local fish farm (bluegill, channel catfish and largemouth bass). Approximately 30 fish have been measured and released.
Students trained on pond management and natural resource data collection protocol, including water and soil quality, and fish capture/mark/recapture. They spent two days collecting data at the Scott Park pond to prepare for the fish release.
This is the beginning of overall efforts to make the pond a fishing site for future students as part of the Scott Park campus renovation.
