A LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
Welcome to Toledo Public Schools. We are honored and excited you have chosen us to educate your child. TPS is committed to serving all students and ensuring each child is college and career ready upon graduation. The district works to provide each child an appropriate education based on his or her learning needs. Our staff provides support and services that meet the individual learning styles of our students with disabilities. Toledo Public Schools offers a continuum of services beginning at the Preschool level and culminating with graduation. Toledo Public Schools believes that Special Education is a service, rather than a place. Through commitment and dedication, the district has moved from a district of mostly self-contained classrooms to a district with a full continuum of services.
In addition to students with disabilities, we also provide support to general education students when needed. If a general education student experiences academic or behavioral difficulties, interventions are designed and implemented by Intervention Response Teams (IRT). These teams meet monthly to develop and monitor academic and behavioral interventions for students referred for assistance. The teams are made up of general education teachers, intervention specialists, the school psychologist and the building principal. A student is typically referred to a team by the parent or the classroom teacher. The parent and/or student's teacher brings data to the team concerning the child’s current academic and/or behavior concerns. Individualized interventions and supports are then developed and implemented for the child. The child’s progress is monitored monthly by the IRT and communicated to parents.
Your child is important to us. Please reach out to anyone on the Student Services team if you need assistance or have any questions.
Thank you,
Tracie Lee
Executive Director of Student Services
