The Toledo Public Schools Business Advisory Council continues to work alongside regional employers, workforce partners, and higher education institutions to expand career pathways and strengthen preparation for postsecondary education and employment. This year’s efforts reflect continued progress in aligning district programming with the evolving workforce needs of Northwest Ohio.
I. Aviation Career Pathway Partnership with Bowling Green State University
Toledo Public Schools and Bowling Green State University have established a formal transfer pathway connecting the Aerospace and Natural Science Academy of Toledo’s Aviation Maintenance Technician program with BGSU’s School of Aviation. Through this partnership, students who earn FAA Airframe and Powerplant certification may receive up to 28 college credit hours upon enrollment at BGSU, creating a more seamless transition from high school to postsecondary education. The collaboration supports preparation for careers in aviation, engineering technology, and related technical fields while strengthening regional workforce pipelines.
II. Youth Hiring Event Expands Across Lucas County
In continued partnership with Lucas County, Toledo Public Schools is advancing the Youth Hiring Event into its third year and expanding participation to include additional school districts across the county. The event brings together employers, trade organizations, training providers, postsecondary institutions, and military representatives to connect students with employment and career opportunities. The expansion reflects growing regional collaboration to support students as they transition from high school to the workforce or continued education.
III. Regional Workforce Collaboration Through the Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium
Toledo Public Schools remains actively engaged in regional workforce development initiatives through the Northwest Ohio Innovation Consortium. This work includes participation in Educational Architecture efforts focused on aligning curriculum with industry skill needs, support for K–12 Summer Academy programming designed to introduce students to STEM and skilled trades pathways, and involvement in Skilled Trades and Workforce Development initiatives aimed at strengthening pre-apprenticeship opportunities and employer-informed training models. These collaborative efforts help build stronger connections between education and industry and support long-term talent development across the region.
Through these partnerships, the Business Advisory Council continues to support career awareness, work-based learning opportunities, credential attainment, and successful transitions for students beyond graduation. The district is grateful for the continued engagement of its industry, workforce, and education partners in preparing students for meaningful postsecondary pathways and careers.
