There's still time to register your students for the 2017-2018 school year.
Parents and guardians are asked to download and fully complete these registration documents and either bring them to the Student Data department at the TPS Educational Campus, 1609 N. Summit St., (419-671-0200) or drop them off at the school where their students are to attend. (There are staff members in the high schools now and all schools will be fully open on August 3).
On August 21, the first cohort of approximately 20 students will begin university coursework in Teach Toledo, a collaboration of Toledo Public Schools and the University of Toledo designed to encourage “Toledo citizens to become Toledo’s teachers.”
Cohort members will take five semesters of UT coursework held at Jones Leadership Academy that will culminate in an Associate of Arts degree. Those who want to be eligible for a State of Ohio Teaching License will then go onto campus to complete a Bachelor’s of Education degree.
Ten-year-old Rylei Young, who will be a fifth grader at DeVeaux Elementary this fall, got a surprise when she walked into Wersell's Bike Shop on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 20.
Waiting for her there was teacher Jeanne Dotson, who had nominated Rylei to receive a free bike through the Bikes for Kids program sponsored by the Charles E. Boyk Law Offices because of her kindness this past school year to a classmate who has autism.
New Scott High School graduate Jared Anderson, 17, and Rogers High School junior Zia Cooke, 16, were honored recently for their impressive athletic accomplishments.
Jared, a boxer, and Zia, a basketball player, were honored by city officials at a news conference held in mid-June by the Police Athletic League (PAL) at its North Toledo headquarters. The teenagers were given a proclamation from Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson and Police Chief George Kral spoke with pride about the two officers - Sgt. Mack Collins and Officer Kim Darrington - who had helped train the athletes on their journey.
