TPS and Mercy Health hosted a ribbon-cutting/opening event for the expansion of the Pre-Medical and Health Science Academy at the Mercy College campus.
The academy currently located at 3301 Upton Ave. has students in grades 7-12 who are passionate about a career serving others in health care.
The new space for the academy at Mercy College will house nine classrooms, two science labs, multiple study spaces and offices. The plan is to have sophomore students attend classes at the Mercy campus full-time beginning in August, with juniors and seniors attending classes at the Mercy campus part time. All other grades will continue to attend classes at the Upton Ave. location.
The Pre-Medical and Health Science Academy focuses on Biomedical Science, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Nursing and Health Science fields. Upon graduation, students have the opportunity to begin an entry-level career in the medical field or choose to attend college and further their
education.
Students are able to work toward and obtain the following certifications: Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, STNA, Athletic Training, Surgical Sterilization Specialist, ECG
Technician, and X-Ray Technician.
