For more than three years, dozens of Toledo Public Schools high school students have participated in the district’s student voice initiative or SMARTS, Students Making Achievements Right This Second.
These dedicated students have prioritized their discussions around the important topics of mental health and wellness. They have worked together to define and identify ways the district can implement strategies to assist students who are experiencing mental health challenges.
Members of SMARTS presented their work during a special meeting of the Board of Education on Thursday, February 20. This meeting also encouraged community leaders to
learn more about SMARTS and support the district’s student leaders as they share their thoughts and plans with the Board of Education and members of TPS administration.
