The Barber Academy is an 1,800-hour training course. Training includes theory and practical experience, including: barber shop management; shampoos and hair tonics; the history of barbering; cosmetic chemistry; razor cuts; clipper cuts; men, women and children cuts; sanitation and sterilization; skin and scalp diseases; barber implements; anatomy and physiology; modern trends; shaving; hair cutting; tinting; facial massage and chemical processing.
The Toledo School of Practical Nursing Program
The Practical Nursing program is a one-year program divided into four quarters, which includes classroom and clinical experience. Nursing experience is provided in a variety of health care facilities, extended care centers and community settings. A Licensed Practical Nurse provides basic nursing care to individuals and groups at the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist or chiropractor.
The program meets the standards of the Ohio Board of Nursing, the Ohio State Barber Board and the Ohio Board of Regents through TPS Adult & Continuing Education.

TPS Adult Education is often the first step in preparing students for their new career.
- Many Practical Nursing students choose to continue their education and receive their certification as a Registered Nurse.
- Many Barber graduates often have the opportunity to open their own barber shop.
In one year, you could start your new career as a Licensed Practical Nurse. In 18 months, you could be a Barber licensed by the State of Ohio. Federal student aid (Pell grants and loans) cover up to 80% of your tuition. (*Adult Education enrolls quarterly and holds classes year round).
