In January 2019, the Toledo Public Schools Career Technology department held its inaugural Career Connect Expo. The career awareness event hosted more than 1,600 8th grade students. They had an opportunity to explore 30-plus unique TPS Career Technology programs and learn about related careers from 60 business and industry partners, representatives from 10 colleges and universities and four branches of the military. Seniors from the Career Technology programs met with the community partners to discuss future career options. Check out the video to catch the excitement of the event!
Plans for this year
This year, the Career Connect Expo will be held on November 12, 13 and 14 at the Seagate Convention Centre in downtown Toledo. Every eighth grade student will have an opportunity to explore the 16 career clusters with interactive activities. Sophomores will participate in hands-on experiences to learn more about the more than 30 Career Technology programs offered at Toledo Public Schools. Additionally, there will be a Career Fair for high school seniors currently enrolled in the district’s Career Technology programs. On the evening of Wednesday, November 13, the Career Connect Expo will be open to parents and community members.
This event is made possible through partnerships with industry, college, and military representatives who will be on hand to showcase their careers, discuss opportunities, and provide the latest information concerning their career fields. You are invited to participate in this year’s Career Connect Expo. The sponsorship levels are:
Platinum: $ 5000
Many of our students have developed in-demand skills to help fill critical gaps in the local labor market, but many of the students face challenges in getting to work and school due to a lack of transportation. A driver's license can address this issue. Reliable transportation is a prime factor in helping students take advantage of internship and employment opportunities. All of the proceeds from the Career Connect Expo will be used to fund a scholarship program for eligible students to obtain their driver’s licenses. The fee to obtain a license through our program partnership is $400 for each student.
