In April, Evergreen Solutions, a national education consulting firm, completed its comprehensive performance audit of Toledo Public Schools. The TPS assessment focused on the organizational, operational, and financial efficiency and effectiveness of the districts’ operations.

The Board of Education chose to receive the first version of performance audit in a public meeting. That document was reviewed for factual errors and inaccuracies. On Tuesday, June 4th the Board of Education held a special meeting and a representative from Evergreen Solutions presented the revised version of the Toledo Public Schools Performance Audit.

Toledo Public Schools has partnered with several local non-profit organizations to provide a variety of academic interventions and enrichment programs that are focused on decreasing student summer learning loss. For more information on program options, click on the attachment Summer Program Overview.

Toledo Public Schools is also working with Feed Lucas County Children and the United Way to provide free lunches to any school-aged student at a number of locations across the district. Click on the attachment for more information, including locations and times KidsExpress.

Three TPS career technology programs are also offering summer camps – they are:
* the Aviation Center flyer
* Toledo Technology Academy flyer
* the Natural Science Technology Center flyer.

Toledo Public Schools is also offering credit recovery options for high school students again this summer through the PLATO Learning System. A variety of on-line classes are available to students who are hoping to make up lost credits. Details of the program and course options are listed in the brochure PLATO.

The district now offers neighborhood elementary schools, innovative use of technology, expanded course offerings and training for 21st Century jobs. Numerous new programs that have been introduced as part of the Transformation Plan include:

Early High School Opportunities 
Seventh and eighth grade students are now taking high school courses. Early High School Opportunities (EHSO) provides qualifying students with the opportunity to take specific courses at the high school in their learning community. EHSO classes give students the advantage of earning high school graduation credits and points toward their overall grade-point-average. Course offerings include: English I, Physical Science, Algebra, World Studies, Band, Orchestra, Choir, Software Applications, Spanish, French, Chinese, Japanese Culture, Home Economics, Physical Education, Art and Managing Transitions. 

Distance Learning
TPS high school students now have the opportunity take classes in a virtual classroom. Students are taking classes via the internet - through the use of technology students at one school now have the opportunity to enroll in classes that are offered at another school. Course offerings include: AP European History, AP American Government, AP Calculus, AP English, World Literature, Statistics, Russian and Chinese.

Alternative School Programs
TPS launched ‘high school academies’ as a way to offer high school courses and credit for students who were having difficulty adjusting to high school or who had dropped out of school and are now looking to complete course work toward earning a diploma. The program is web-based and is offer after regular high school hours. Students who enroll in this program will receive in-class support, along with the job placement assistance.
