On Monday, April 20, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine confirmed that PreK-12 schools across Ohio will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-20 school year as the state continues to deal with the novel coronavirus.
Given this new information, Toledo Public Schools will continue to keep students engaged in learning. The district will be distributing learning packets the week of May 4, 2020. Details concerning completed assignments and distribution of the new learning packets will be shared in the coming days.
District leadership will be asking the Board of Education to pass a resolution stating that elementary students will receive a 'pass or fail' grade for the fourth quarter. High school students will receive the average grade for each class from the first three quarters of the school year as a baseline grade. Students will be able to improve their average grade by completing online assignments or those that will be distributed the week of May 4, 2020.
Toledo Public Schools is also working to distribute Chromebooks to families that DO NOT have access to a device. The Chromebooks are being distributed based on students with the highest academic needs for online supports or who need assistance with completing their current grade. All eligible families will be contacted in the coming days about picking up a Chromebook. The district is offering one device per family.
Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, all high school proms have been cancelled. We are making this decision based on the guidelines outlined by the governor's office. An announcement about graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 will be coming soon.
At this time, we encourage students to complete their online assignments or those that were included in the last learning packets.
