The safety of all students, faculty, and staff is the utmost priority for Toledo Public Schools. The district has equipped all schools with emergency plans, and all staff members are trained in practices and procedures to ensure the safety of everyone present. The district also has full time dispatchers and a computerized security alarm system to provide additional support in case of emergency.
ANONYMOUS TIP LINE
City of Toledo police officers, called School Resource Officers, are stationed in the district's high schools. The officers are available to quickly assist the elementary schools in their learning communities if they should need help.
The district also offers programs to prevent drug use and gang violence, which threaten school safety. Students and families are encouraged to communicate with the district and address issues before they become problems. Anyone can anonymously report actual or potential danger in or around any school by calling a toll-free number available 24 hours a day: 1-TPS-ETOLEDO (1-877-386-5336). If you have any additional concerns or questions about safety, please contact the TPS Security Director at 419-671-8293.
In the interest of safety and a productive learning environment, TPS deals decisively with any adult or student disrupting or attempting to disrupt a school. Such disturbances will be dealt with using the municipal law of the Safe Schools Ordinance. The strong internal security system and established partnership with the Toledo Police Department and the Lucas County Sheriff's Office allow TPS to resolve distractions or threats quickly and efficiently, thus maintaining an environment conducive to learning.
SIGNING IN/OUT WHEN VISITING A SCHOOL
Your child's safety is the district's utmost priority; therefore, we require that all visitors -including parents and volunteers - sign in at the school's office upon entry to the building. Visitors will receive an identification badge that must be worn at all times on school grounds. If you need to check your child out of school during the day, please report to the school office for clearance. For their protection, students will not be released from class without approval from the office.
