The Toledo Public Schools Business Advisory Council is excited to share its latest initiatives aimed at empowering our local students and enhancing opportunities for career development:
1. We have assembled an industry volunteer team to offer resume reviews, interview practice, and soft skills coaching to students, ensuring they're well-prepared to seize future employment opportunities.
2. A transportation task force, consisting of industry volunteers, is evaluating community transportation options and creating resources for students, empowering them with the knowledge required to access employment opportunities seamlessly.
3. In partnership with local employers, we are working to create six-week paid work experiences for students between their junior and senior years, instilling vital skills in punctuality and teamwork, and providing industry exposure to establish a strong foundation for their post-graduation career paths.
4. Our Manufacturing and Design Experience (MADE) summer camp for elementary students -conceived by the BAC in partnership with the Lucas County Department of Planning and Development and the Office of Senator Sherrod Brown in 2019- is gearing up for its fourth year, and is dedicated to introducing Toledo's youth to the vibrant realm of advanced manufacturing. Through hands-on experiences at various TPS high schools and including industry site visits throughout the week, MADE aims to foster a deeper understanding of this dynamic career field.
These initiatives among many others represent Toledo Public Schools' commitment to fostering a supportive environment for the next generation of professionals in Toledo. Join us in making a difference in the lives of our students and the future of our community.
