The Electric Vehicle Center will be part of the Toledo Technology Academy of Engineering, to offer classes on electric vehicle design and maintenance, and will allow the district to form partnerships with vehicle manufacturers and provide training. Classes at the Electric Vehicle Center will also be made available to adults.

Toledo Early College High School is ranked #4,810 in the National Rankings. Schools are ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation and how well they prepare students for college.

Toledo Technology Academy High School is ranked 209th within Ohio. The total minority enrollment is 39%. Toledo Technology Academy High School is 1 of 11 high schools in the Toledo Public Schools.

The TPS Board of Education has approved a new strategic plan for the district which includes the motto: "Purpose Driven, Future Focused." The strategic plan includes new mission and vision statements, along with a set of core values and a set of goals and objectives.

Bluegill are an important and abundant sport fish in the United States. They are also one of the most common species in Ohio and can be found in almost every body of water throughout the state. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that a third of all alcohol-related teen driving fatalities happen during prom and graduation season between April and June. This event was as close to reality as it gets to demonstrate for our students what a crash is like. Hopefully they can take the experience with them for years to come.

Our last TPS Local History Lecture of the year will be Dr. Barbara Floyd presenting "The Miracle on Bancroft Street" in honor of UT's 150th anniversary.

Mya and Madison Glover were recently named the valedictorian and salutatorian of their graduating class at Toledo Early College High School, an honor reserved for the two students with the best GPAs.

Nancy Thompson will replace Diana Ruiz-Krause as the Chief Security Officer at Toledo Public Schools, who has served in the role since 2018.

The annual Celebration of Excellence dinner was held last night to honor the 2023 high school valedictorians and salutatorians.

Woodward's Diesel Tech program has finalized a new partnership with Ohio Peterbilt and Peterbilt Motors Company.

Woodward Tech students will now have the opportunity to work on a modern 2014 freightliner. The truck gives them the chance to get hands on with veicles they will encounter in the field.

The Board of Education has approved the new three-year calendar, which includes the 2023-24, 2024-25, and 2025-26 school years.

Toledo Public Schools, along with a number of its community partners, will be offering a number of extended learning opportunities during the month of June for students in grades PreK through eighth grade.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona recently visited Waite High School as part of his national Return to School Road Trip — a bus tour to showcase how students and communities are safely returning to in-person learning.

Due to the continued spread of COVID-19 across the region and the state of Ohio, Toledo Public Schools will continue with 100 percent remote learning (known as Red Light status) for the start of the second semester.

With Toledo Public Schools returning to Red Light status - meaning students will learn remotely until the end of the first semester on December 17, 2020 - the food distribution schedule has been modified.

With COVID-19 cases continuing to climb in Lucas County, Ohio and the country, Dr. Romules Durant, CEO/Superintendent of Toledo Public Schools, has made the decision that the district will return to Red Light status through the end of the first semester, effective Monday, November 16, 2020.

There are no classes for students on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3.

The 10th Annual TPS College Fair is TOMORROW, Wednesday, October 28, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Now that Toledo Public Schools is operating under a hybrid learning schedule, meal distribution plans for students have been updated.

All TPS elementary schools will be on a two-hour delayed start this Friday, October 23, to allow teachers to complete first-quarter reports and grades.

Since the global pandemic began, Toledo Public Schools administrators have worked diligently to come up with the best plans to continue to educate students while still taking into account their safety, as well as that of their families and all staff members.

On Friday, October 16, the district learned that the cyberattack that impacted learning on the first day of the semester on September 8, 2020 also targeted the personal information of our students, including Social Security numbers.

As Toledo Public Schools transitions to a hybrid learning model starting on Monday, October 12, all students in grades Kindergarten through 12th grade will be required to wear masks.

Toledo Public Schools will be switching from Red Light status to Yellow Light status, starting in mid October.

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced an Ohio Department of Health order on August 27th that required K-12 schools to establish a mechanism for parents and guardians to report confirmed cases of COVID-19 among their children.

Help is now available for Toledo Public Schools families who need help with technology as the district readies to start the 2020-2021 school year with all online classes.

After holding a Zoom call with student athletes and their families on Saturday, August 29, TPS administrators have released packets of information that need to be filled out for the 2020-2021 school year before students can play athletics:

This fall in Toledo Public Schools, the first test students in grades 1-8 (along with Kindergarten Repeaters) will be taking is the NWEA MAP Growth Assessment Tests.

Toledo Public Schools is partnering with Buckeye Broadband to provide free internet services to TPS families that do not have Wi-Fi in their homes and meet several requirements. To read what those requirements are - and to sign up to be considered for the program - familes should fill out this form: Application Form Once the form is submitted - and families have been approved for the service known as FreeNet - they will be contacted via email within a week to learn the next steps to getting internet installed in their homes.

After Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine announced that high school sports can take place this fall, district leaders developed the following tentative timeline: Fall Sports Timeline On or before September 25th, depending on the status of the COVID-19 pandemic in Toledo, administrators at Toledo Public Schools will announce plans for fall sports, including a schedule for football. District administrators will strictly follow the guidelines provided by the State of Ohio and will continue to monitor the health and well being of all student athletes throughout the fall and spring seasons. Please note: changes will be made as needed, including the postponement or cancellation of sports. More details will be released as plans are finalized.

Starting on Tuesday, September 8 - fhe first day of online learning for students in grades first through twelfth - buses from the Toledo Public Schools fleet will be used to deliver a week's worth of meals to interested families. Returning to school might look different for the 2020-2021 school year, but that doesn't mean Dr. Romules Durant, CEO/Superintendent of Toledo public Schools, wanted to miss out on sending his annual Back To School letter. Administrators at Toledo Public Schools understand that a number of families have questions about the upcoming school year. Parents and guardians should mark their calendar for August 26 for a Back to School Virtual Cafe. Check out the details below.

The Toledo Public Schools Board of Education approved a recommendation from Dr. Romules Durant, CEO/Superintendent, to start the 2020-2021 school year completely online. Known as the Red Light status, the all virtual environment will start on Tuesday, September 8, when all elementary and high school students will start classes. Please note: This is a later start date than announced earlier this year. Kindergarten students will start transitioning to learning the week of September 8 and their first full day of virtual learning will be Monday, September 14. When it is deemed safe to do so, Toledo Public Schools will move to a Yellow Light status, which will be a hybrid of in-person and remote learning. The district's students will be divided into A and B groups, with the A Group attending in-person classes on Monday and Thursday and the B Group attending in-person classes on Tuesday and Friday. The Ohio Department of Health have released the following guidelines for fall sports in the state: Ohio Sports Information Toledo Public Schools has postponed fall sports until October 1.

Administrators for Toledo Public Schools have released the first phase of their plans for the 2020-2021 school year. The major announcement made on July 10 was that all students will be on an AB schedule when classes resume after having been closed in March to slow the spread of the coronavirus. That essentially means that half of the students will be in class on Mondays and Thursdays and the other half will be in school on Tuesdays and Fridays. There will be no students in school buildings on Wednesday so they can be deeply cleaned. On Thursday, July 2, Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine released his Reset and Restart Education Planning Guide for schools for the 2020-2021 school year. The guide is designed to help schools and their partners understand guidelines for reopening school buildings during the continued presence of COVID-19, with an emphasis on protecting the health and safety of vulnerable members of school communities. The restrictions and guidelines still in place because of COVID-19 means that Toledo Public Schools will be unable to offer Summer School in the high schools this year. Students who were seniors this year and did not graduate in the spring have until July 31 to complete their coursework so they can graduate in August. Those TPS students who were freshmen through juniors this past school year who need to recover credits will have the opportunity to do so in the coming 2020-2021 school year.

It may be summer break, but Toledo Public Schools wants to make sure students are reading this summer. That's why the district purchased and shipped directly to homes 9,834 book packets to all students in grades PreK through fourth grade. The packets include a letter from Dr. Romules Durant, CEO/Superintendent of TPS. It was extremely important to Dr. Durant and other TPS administrators to supply these books because they know that extended time away from the classroom contributes to learning loss. Trying to prevent the 'summer slide' in learning is especially important this year because students have been out of school since March 13, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic in the country. By pairing with Scholastic to mail My Summer Reading Books and Summer Express workbooks to every student in grades PreK through fourth grade, TPS administrators are hoping to ensure that all students have equal access to quality summer reading materials and that parents are supported as they engage their students in literacy pursuits over the summer months. Each summer reading book pack has high interest, grade-appropriate books with activity sheets that correspond to each book - and a summer reading journal. The activity sheets include ideas on how families can enjoy the books together, questions to encourage personal connections and tips designed to inform parents how to help their children get the most out of each book. The packs include a mix of fictional and informational texts, encouraging students to interact with different types of books. The Summer Express workbooks include: A letter to parents Parent tips for using the summer workbooks Skill-building activities for any time, using every day activities to help parents seize teachable moments Skills alignment by week - review skills in Math and Language Arts designed to help prevent summer skill loss

Connecting Kids to Meals has released the dates and locations where meals will be served this summer for students from Toledo Public Schools and others. Please find the list here: Summer Meal Sites In addition, the City of Toledo announced that free lunch will be served in five city parks from June 1 to Aug. 14 through a partnership with the Children’s Hunger Alliance. The Toledo Public Schools Student Assistance Hotline willl close for homework help on Thursday, May 14, while help with technology, mental health and Special Education issues will be available until 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 21. The hotline is available Monday through Thursday, from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. To help direct the call, families are asked to complete the survey - Student Assistance Hotline Request Form - or call TPS operators at 419-671-0001.

Toledo Public Schools and The TPS Foundation have devised two ways that the community can show support for 2020 graduates. Orders can be placed until Wednesday, May 20, for yard signs honoring the Class of 2020, while the deadline is Friday, May 22, to buy T-shirts. Because Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine has extended the mandatory closure of all PreK-12 schools in the state of Ohio through the end of the 2019-2020 school year, a new set of learning packets will be distributed the week of May 4 so students can complete their school year. Those learning packets are posted on the home page of www.tps.org (just look at the pictures at the top of the page) but if it is easier for families to pick up the packets, here are the dates and locations for in-person pickup (starting on Tuesday May 5): Learning Packet Pickup. NOTE: Only those students who have not received assignments from their teachers electronically should be completing the learning packet work. (If students have received their assignments from their teachers, they should complete that work through the use of technology and DO NOT need to pick up a learning packet). Please note: Materials may be downloaded and printed; if unable to print the materials, students may write the answers in a notebook - this WILL be accepted for credit.

On Monday, April 20, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine confirmed that PreK-12 schools across Ohio will remain closed for the rest of the 2019-20 school year as the state continues to deal with the novel coronavirus. Given this new information, Toledo Public Schools will continue to keep students engaged in learning. The district will be distributing learning packets the week of May 4, 2020. Details concerning completed assignments and distribution of the new learning packets will be shared in the coming days. District leadership will be asking the Board of Education to pass a resolution stating that elementary students will receive a ‘pass or fail’ grade for the fourth quarter. High school students will receive the average grade for each class from the first three quarters of the school year as a baseline grade. Students will be able to improve their average grade by completing online assignments or those that will be distributed the week of May 4, 2020. Toledo Public Schools is also working to distribute Chromebooks to families that DO NOT have access to a device. The Chromebooks are being distributed based on students with the highest academic needs for online supports or who need assistance with completing their current grade. All eligible families will be contacted in the coming days about picking up a Chromebook. The district is offering one device per family. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, all high school proms have been cancelled. We are making this decision based on the guidelines outlined by the governor’s office. An announcement about graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2020 will be coming soon. At this time, we encourage students to complete their online assignments or those that were included in the last learning packets. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we continue to monitor the latest news and mandates related to COVID-19. We know that many families are feeling overwhelmed. That is why, TPS has specialists available through a Student Assistance Hotline. They are able to provide you help with a variety of topics, including schoolwork, school-related technology challenges, mental health concerns, and special education issues. The district has teachers, technology instructors, counselors and psychologists to assist you with any questions regarding your child’s education during the extended closure. While these calls cannot replace the face-to-face support your child normally receives, it is our hope this hotline will assist you with the education you are providing your children. On Thursday, April 16, several experts held a webinar to share information about this year’s at-home AP exams and to give tips on about how students should prepare for the tests. The speakers also answered common questions that parents and students may have. Toledo Public Schools administrators encourage parents and their AP students to listen to this webinar together.

Registration for Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year is still underway. School buildings are reopened and it is preferred that parents and guardians go to their nearest elementary school to pick up registration packets for Kindergarten students. When entering the school building, masks are required. Please note: Toledo Public Schools will start the 2020-2021 school year in a Red Light status, which means all classes will be online. Kindergarten students will start transitioning on September 8, with the first full day of Kindergarten slated for Monday, September 14. Once a student is fully registered for Kindergarten, more information will be shared about the transition period.

Every year school, Toledo Public Schools counselors and school nurses provide the district's first and fourth grade students with a personal safety curriculum. Since this is usually done in the spring - but cannot be done in person this year because of the school-ordered closures in the state - the district has partnered with the Family and Child Abuse Prevention Center (FCAPC) to offer a curriculum that meets or exceeds the state of Ohio's mandated personal safety program (O.R.C. 3313.60). The lessons teach children skills and knowledge about keeping their bodies safe. The lessons are simple and interactive. Parents are the key in reinforcing personal safety for their children. There are two sets of curriculum - one is for first or second graders and the other is for third or fourth graders. If you have any questions, please contact your school's counselor or nurse. Toledo Public Schools will provide WiFi access to nearly 2,000 students across the city of Toledo by using its school bus fleet to serve as hotspots at Lucas Metropolitan Housing Authority (LMHA) sites. The district plans to install WiFi capabilities on at least three additional buses to offer even more access at each location. By offering this resource, more students have the opportunity to take advantage of the online learning experiences provided by the district. Toledo Public Schools continues to provide ‘grab and go’ meals for students in our community during the mandated school closures across Ohio. Given that, the following schedule changes are being implemented: McKinley Elementary Food Distribution Site Beginning Monday, April 6, 2020, meal service at McKinley Elementary will be available only on Mondays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. At that time, families will receive five-days-worth of meals. Spring Break Schedule Toledo Public Schools is scheduled to be on Spring Break for the week of April 13, 2020. Meals will be served on the following dates during that week: Thursday, April 9: All food distribution sites, except McKinley, will provide two-days-worth of meals to each student Friday, April 10: All food sites will be closed in observance of Good Friday Monday, April 13: All food distribution sites, except McKinley, will provide two-days-worth of meals to each student Tuesday, April 14: All food distribution sites will be closed Wednesday, April 15: All food distribution sites, except McKinley, will provide three-days-worth of meals Thursday, April 16 and Friday, April 17: All food sites will be closed Starting, Monday, April 20, the McKinley site will continue to give five days of food out every Monday. Dr. Amy Acton, the director of the Ohio Department of Health, has ordered all Ohioans to 'stay at home,' effective at midnight on Monday, March 23, in an attempt to contain the coronavirus ravaging the country. That means a majority of businesses are closing. However, one of the exemptions under the order are locations serving grab-and-go food, so Toledo Public Schools will continue to offer meals to all students on weekdays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Lunch and breakfast for the following day can be picked up at the following locations: Bowsher High School: 2200 Arlington Ave. McKinley/DeVilbiss: 3344 Westland Ave. Jones Leadership Academy of Business: 430 Nebraska Ave. Rogers High School: 220 McTigue Dr. Scott High School: 2400 Collingwood Blvd. Start High School: 2010 Tremainsville Rd. Dear TPS students and parents: Thank you to those who went to their respective school today, Monday, March 23, to pick up the current learning packets. This material is designed for students for the next two weeks. We realize there were challenges at some locations, especially at our high schools. For those students who did not receive assignments, please email your teacher directly. He or she will be able to share the information with you - please include your principal on that email. We appreciate everyone's patience as we continue to maneuver through the challenges presented to us due to COVID-19 and the mandatory school closures by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. Thank you. This is a reminder for Toledo Public Schools families that they should pick up their students' learning packets (some schools call them blizzard bags) from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Monday, March 23, at their children's school. Schools having additional times will communicate that directly with their families. For the safety of all parents and guardians - and TPS staff members - we will be limiting the number of people entering the building at one time to no more than 10. This message is for all families that need access to health care. With Ohio’s ordered school-building closure period set to last until at least Monday, April 6, Toledo Public Schools students are not able to access our TPS school-based health centers. That is why the Rams Health Center and the Bulldog Health Center are currently offering a Telehealth option for all Toledo Public Schools students. Access to a health care provider for physical or mental health is available.

All students who are enrolled in Apex Credit Recovery courses are able to continue in their course and DO NOT need to contact their Apex administrator or teacher to unlock these items. Students need to take their time and try their very best the FIRST time they take an Apex quiz. The score earned the first time is the score that will be entered in the grade book. That goes for unit tests, too. All final exams remain locked and CANNOT be unlocked for completion at HOME. If students have completed all of their activities with the exception of the final exam, they need to EMAIL their administrator to let them know. If these students need to recover credit in another course, those administrators will get another APEX course assigned to them at that time. Apex students taking an English, Biology or Physical Science course need to complete their practice writing pieces and dry labs at home using the resources provided in the Apex course. These activities need to be saved and brought to school when classes resume in April. Final exams will also be completed when students return to school. It is VERY IMPORTANT that Apex students do their very best. This means reading through all presented material, completing all practice items and study sheets, and taking their time on quizzes and tests... NO CLICKING AND GUESSING! Mike DeWine mandated all schools in the state close for at least three weeks. March 13, 2020 Dear TPS Families: Following the mandate from Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine, Toledo Public Schools will be closing schools for three weeks, starting Monday, March 16. It has been determined that closing schools will be an effective way to disrupt widespread infection of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19). The 2019 Novel Coronavirus, a new virus first reported in Wuhan, China, causes respiratory illness in people and can spread from person-to-person. Scott High School seniors - and their parents and guardians - got a wonderful surprise the morning of Wednesday, January 29, when Pete Kadens, an Ottawa Hills native who now lives in Chicago, pledged to pay for their room and board, tuition and all fees for either college or a trade school. Mr. Kadens, the retired CEO of Green Thumb, a national cannabis company, also made the same pledge for one parent or legal guardian of each student. A ceremony was held recently at Bowsher High School to acknowledge that the school has ben selected by the Ohio Department of Education as a 2020 Purple Star designee. The school is the first urban school in the state to receive the honor. The education department started the Purple Star program four years ago as a way to honor schools' commitment to providing additional services for military-connected students and families. Robyn Hage, Bowsher's assistant choir director and the staff member responsible for military programming, told The Blade the school honors both students enlisted in the Army as well as staff members who have served in the armed forces, with programming such as a special annual breakfast. She said the school also has a committee that provides support services for students in military families, "because it’s very cumbersome to come into a building where you don’t know anybody or you are unsure about the classes that you need to take because you move multiple times a school year." Beginning this week, (the week of October 21), Toledo Public Schools will implement the following changes related to football games. These changes are being made with the safety and security of our students, staff members, families and spectators in mind. We appreciate everyone’s understanding and support: • Gates will open at 5 p.m. – games will begin at 5:30 p.m. • Only students who attend one of the participating schools will be admitted • Students must show school ID at the gate - students without a valid ID will not be admitted • Spectators who are not students may be asked to show valid ID • TPS elementary students/younger spectators must be accompanied by an adult at all times • Tickets will only be sold at the gate – no presale tickets sold at schools • No ticket sales after the end of the 2nd quarter • There will be no re-entry to the stadium • The student dress code must be followed at athletic events, meaning no gang-related attire, no masks or facial coverings or memorial t-shirts or clothing • No backpacks or large bags will be permitted into the stadium – all spectators and their belongings are subject to being searched • TPS Department of Public Safety and school personnel reserve the right to refuse entrance to any student or spectator

The Ohio Department of Education released its annual report cards for public schools on Thursday, September 12, and Toledo Public Schools has good news to share with the community.
